For those of you on Bed Rest

What did you do all day to keep from going crazy?  My doctor put me on bed rest today because of crazy swelling. No more work for me. I'm in a wedding Saturday, so I guess I'll try to stay off my feet as much as I can until then and then start Sunday.  I had no idea this was going to happen and I still feel like there is a lot to do.  Do you really have to lay there all day?

Re: For those of you on Bed Rest

  • I've been on modified bedrest (what I call "house arrest") since 16 weeks. Most days I watch crap TV in the morning (Regis and Kelly, The View, Tyra), then spend the afternoons reading, knitting, doing other crafts and organization activities (organized all my old photos and albums, made a scrapbook for my friend's birthday) and watched a lot of TV shows on DVD. I'm watching Mad Men right now, it's a great show.

  • I've been on strict bedrest since Saturday. I just get up to make myself food and use the bathroom. I switch from the bed to the couch. I just watch tv and think about all the things that need to get done that I have to rely on DH to do now. At least my mom and sister are coming by next week to clean this place before the baby comes. It sucks but its whats best so I can't complain.

  • Go to the High Risk board. There's a daily check-in for BedRest Mamas. They'll give you lots of advice on how to survive bedrest. I can make some suggestions, but it's not the same as getting advice from women who have been doing it for months!

And, yes, if your OB says bedrest, that's exactly what you should be doing. Did you talk to him/her about the wedding?

I'm on modified bed rest too.  I'm working from home though so that pretty much occupies most of my time.  I just haul the laptop and phone to the couch and set up shop.  I've made a lot of lists of things to do once I hit 36wks -- it's a major tactical sweep I have planned.  You watch TV, scrapbook, do sudoku, write your memoirs, whatever.

  • I've been on modified bedrest since 20 weeks from threatened PTL.  I don't lay down all day long but I do alternate activity with rest.  I also have my DH wheel me around in a wheelchair around the mall or the grocery store to get out of the house.

I watch tv, bump, read and honestly I sleep a lot because there is nothing better to do.  It sounds great but I'd rather be at work.

There is a bedrest checkin over on the high risk board if you want to join that.

  • You poor thing! I can't imagine since 16 weeks! Craft are a good idea.  Maybe I can get his scrapbook started :)
  • Is your swelling related to high blood pressure? I have some of the worst swelling my doc has ever seen and I'm still working full time on my feet all day lol.
  • Thanks for the suggestions.  I'm one of those people who always has a bunch of stuff to do and is very busy, which I think is part of my problem now.  I talked to them about the wedding before and they said it was fine, but I didn't bring it up today.  I hope it's ok!
  • No, not high blood pressure.  I guess my doctor was just worried about it.  What did your doctor say about your swelling?  They weren't worried about it?

Well I have a weird situation. Up until 2 weeks ago I had a midwife. She didn't seem concerned bc my bp was fine, no protein in urine, etc. She said to try and put them up (which I can't really at work). I had to kinda fire her, and I saw my FIL who is a general practitioner and used to deliver babies. He said it was very bad swelling, but since everything else was fine there were no worries. He is monitoring my bp closely. I finally got in with a doc who will deliver my baby. My appt is Monday so we'll see what she says. She will prob tell me to stop working. :/
