Pennsylvania Babies

all the little things....

I have to send DH shopping on his own for the rest of the stuff from our registry and all the little things we need.  I've thought of a few like breast pads, nursing bras, baby shampoo/wash, etc.  Name all the little stuff you use for baby that you wouldn't necessarily register for.  I'm a little afraid to send him without a concrete list...who knows what he'll come home with.

Re: all the little things....

  • Gerber cloth diapers for burp cloths

NB footed sleepers (if it's a boy you need extras since they urinate for every diaper change and you can only catch so many with washcloths over the penis) and extra washcloths if you don't have enough to stock the changing station with.

no-scratch mittens for when you can't get to the nails quickly enough.

lanolin, vaseline for a boy's circ, alchohol swabs for cord care and nipple shields (get these from the hospital and you don't need to buy them)

maxi pads - again stock up at the hospital but you'll need your own too, even if you have a c-section like I did.

    white noise machine

do you have tons of receiving blankets? You can swaddle with them or put them over the changing pad, again for those diaper change urinations

extra sheets for basinette, crib or PNP for sleep-time spit ups

does the nursery have a clock? Very important for those middle of the night nursing sessions. Something I didn't think about until I needed one!

  • are you talking about nipple shields to help with bfing? I was looking at those but how the hell do you know what size you are? Thanks for the clock recommendation. We do not have one in there right now.

  • I'm trying to think what I had a friend run out and get for me when we first came home.  I remember at least a few more sleeping nursing bras (it's usually all I wear) and the sleeper "gowns" because there are so many diaper changes.  And DH had to run out and get more big pads (and ended up bringing home scented ones, gross, so be specific!).
  • Yep, nipple shields help with breastfeeding, especially if you're getting sore in those first few weeks. The lacation consultant at the hospital should give you one if you ask. Sizes are strange on there. I had two and one just seemed too big for his little mouth!
  • Do you have any nursing night gowns/pajama tops? Those were really nice for me. They're super comfy and make nursing so much easier.

You will need more burp cloths and wash cloths than you think you will need.  We went out to buy different sized blankets because we couldn't swaddle A in the small recieving blankets.  See if you can take the ones from the hospital.  We couldn't but friends of ours were able to.

I also recommend food for you  that's easy to grab and eat with minimal preparation.  I loved bagels and Pop-Tarts, and it was nice to be able to reheat a bowl of soup when I wanted in the micro.
