Girl name spelling

DH and I are considering Bryna for our daughter's name. I've only ever known one Bryna and that is how she spelled it, but we are debating between "Bryna" or "Brenna". Thoughts?

Re: Girl name spelling

  • Brenna.

Bryna makes me want to say "bri (like in bride)-na."

    Blank!

Bryna makes me want to say "bri (like in bride)-na."?

This for me as well. But then Brenna reminds me of Brenda and I would probably call her that accidently.?

  • I'd pronounce it "Bri" as in Britain.

  • Bryna would be pronounced like Brine-uh. Stick with Brenna, which, sounded out, is how I believe you want it to be pronounced.

    :)?

    .
  • Bryna and Brenna are pronounced two totally different ways to me.

I know a Brenna and her name fits her well.  She pronounces it Breh-na (with Breh like Bread). Bryna sounds like Bri-na (with Bri like Britain)

Depending on the pronounciation you want would determine how it should be spelled. You don't want her to have to correct people her whole life.

  • Loove Brenna! I know a little girl named Brinna, she was sweet so I have a good association. GL!

    ditto this exactly!

I would use Brenna.  As someone whose name has a half dozen different spellings, and no one ever spells it correctly, I much prefer traditional spellings.  Especially for little girls...girls want things with their names on it, and unless you special order everything, she's never going to find stickers or a key chain, or whatever it is that she wants with the spelling Bryna.

  • I agree that Bryna and Brenna have different pronunciations. I prefer the pronunciation of Bri-na (with Bri like Britain), but I was worried that with Bryna people might call her Bri-na (as in bride). I like the suggestion of Brynna - thanks!
  • Bryna makes me think it's pronounced sounded like "China"

My 4 y/o DD is Brenna. I love the name and all variations of it!

  • Brenna, it looks better than Bryna.
  • I think Brenna looks better. I see Bryna and want to say Bry-nah

Honestly i like it with the Y and 2 N's better: Brynna.  Probably because i love the name Brynn.  i've never known a Bryna and don't love Brenna.

Normally i'm a "i hate Y's" person, but i think it belongs in Brynn, and by extension Brynna.

I agree. I like the spelling Brynna much better.

  • I thought you were asking if you should name her Brinn-ah.  If you want the sound of Brenna, spell it Brenna, otherwise, no one will ever say it right.

  • Bryna looks too confusing to pronounce. I like Brenna a lot -- it is my sister's name!
  • I prefer Brenna.

Agreed, and I like the sound and look of Brenna much better.

  • I think they are both pretty, but...

Bryna and Brenna are two different names. BRYN rhymes with tin. BRENN rhymes with ten.

fwiw, I like either Brynna or Brenna, but they are not the same name.

You could also go with Brinna though I think Brynna looks better

This. Bryna makes me read it brine-uh.

I don't have strong feelings towards either one.

  • If you want Br-in-a I would go with Brynna or Bryna. Another reason I would use Brynna is my DD's name is Brynn.

Brenna makes me want to annunciate it with the "en" sounding like the "en" in the beginning of "enter".  Br-en-ah

    Hope I haven't confused you.
