I'm new to this board. I went back two pages and didn't see anything about this. I have my DD's one year pedi appt on Friday. I'm sure the Dr will say I can switch to milk.
How did you do it? Cold turkey? Mix formula and milk together? Alternate feedings (one formula, the next milk). Help. This is obviously my first experience with this situation.
Any advice and/or tips are appreciated. TIA.
Re: Talk to me about transitioning from formula to milk, please
From 10mos on we started making her bottles more cold until they were fridge cold like milk would be. I did NOT want to have to worry about warming cow's milk for the next few years!!
A week before turning 11.5mos I started replacing an oz or two of formula for cow's milk until about 8 days later when she had 100% milk in her bottles.
At about 11.5mos I decided to see if she'd even take a sippy of milk (hadn't drank more than an oz of water out of one so had no hopes it'd work) and she drank a good 4ozs at once!! I was shocked but decided right then that she was clearly capable so why drag it out? I stopped all bottles right then and she's never balked at the change. I thought she'd never take a sippy but I guess she just hated drinking water out of it becaus seh downs her milk!
The next day I made another switch to a straw cup because she had had the same amt of practice on one as the sippy so again I figured why not? Mine as well go thru the hard stuff all at once. But, nope, she took to it right away and has now been on the straw cup for more than 2 weeks. She has also alway taken in at least 12 ozs but mostly she drinks her "quota" by snack time at 4pm so I will sometimes give her a few more ozs of milk with dinnner or just give her water. Either way it went so smoothly!!!
We started at 12mos. First with a couple of oz of whole vs. formula & then increasing the number of ounces of whole every week. If your LO doesn't like the taste of whole milk or has a constipation problem, you can add a bit of dark karo syrup to their sippy & they will drink. Eventually, they will get the hang of drinking it w/o the Karo syrup, but your LO poops will be more solid than when on straight formula. Solid poops are attributed to not only whole milk, but eating more & more regular table foods.
GL!!
