I think I'm going to make an appt with my OB this week. This whole situation with my brother being sick has got me all sorts of depressed and full of anxiety. I can barely work and take care of the house and family. The last thing I need is to get fired...
So if you did take an antidepressant or antianxiety med, what was it and did it help?
Oh, and my brother just sent me a text, "Did you hear about Kenny's lung?". Ugh. Apparently his left lung has partially collapsed. After 4 good days, a resp. tech left his ventilator on too high of a pressure and not only partially collapsed a lung but he also has subcutaneous emphysema (air bubbles under the skin from the collapsed lung). The poor kid can't catch a break. So besides the tracheotomy he might be getting Thursday he also will have a chest tube put in tomorrow. Both are temporary measures, but nonetheless depressing.
Re: Anyone take antidepressants during pg?
:::hugs:::
I have been thinking about your family lots.
I'm so sorry, Mags. I've been thinking and praying for your brother and your family.
To answer your question, I am on Zoloft right now, with no plans to come off. My OB recommended coming off two months prior to delivery to minimize the withdrawl symptoms to the baby, but I decided not to. We're going through MAJORLY stressful life-changes right now and I feel it's better for me to stay on it! My stress level, anxiety and mood directly affects my family. We're ALL happier when I have my happy pills.
I'm sorry!
Yes, I took the lowest dose of Welbutrin (and still do) and it has helped tremendously...plus, so far I haven't experienced the horrible ppd I had after DS was born. Bonus!
You've been in my thoughts these days. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this, let alone doing so while pregnant. Hang in there-things have to look up soon.
Oh, and I wasn't on those until after the baby, so I can't say.
With my last pregnancy I was on Effexor the entire time. I tried to come off of it but had such a hard time. I thought I needed it but now that I am off I realize I was going through withdraws. It did help when I first got on it but if I would have known how bad getting off of it was going to be I would have never ever started. (Outburst, brain shivers, dizziness, forgetfulness and the list goes on and on.) DD didn't seem to have any problems but often wonder what damage she has suffered that isn't apparent.
I'm not familiar with your situation but just want you to be aware before you decide to get on the meds. Good luck!
I'm so sorry for everything you are dealing with.
During my pregnancy with DS and again with this one, my doctors's highly recommended me continue taking my Celexa. One reason was because by staying on throughout the pregnancy, my chances of PPD was much lower. There was no harm to DS-he's a thriving 2 yr old little boy.
Good luck to you.
