Progesterone levels and clomid

DH and I are playing the waiting game right now after our 1st cycle on clomid. I had my CD23 b/w done on Friday, and the nurse called to say that the Dr. said I was ovulatory, and that it looks like my dosage was correct at 50 mg. I then asked about the numbers from the bloodwork, and she seemed confused but then said my progesterone levels were 5.85. After getting off the phone, I started researching this, and that seems too low. Most things I've read said the levels on clomid should be around 15, or at least greater than 10. Has anyone else had their dr. say that a prog level of 5.85 was normal?

Re: Progesterone levels and clomid

  • My understanding is that 5 indicates ovulation, but that doctors generally like to see more than 10 on an unmedicated cycle, and more than 15 on a medicated cycle.?

So, it makes sense that your nurse would call back with a report that you were ovulatory. But I would call back and ask the doctor if he thinks your levels are low enough that you should be on supplements. He or she may choose to prescribe some for your next cycle.

I started out on 50 mg and the first cycle I was 14.85, which I figured was pretty darn close to 15 so I was happy.  The next cycle, I stayed at 50mg, they said I o'd  but my number was 8 I didn't think I did.  The following cycle, still at 50, I didn't O and they upped me to 100.  Now I'm just waiting to find out the results of the test.  I don't go on day 21-23, I go 5-7 days after my thermal shift.  I always seem to O day 19.   Good luck.
Sorry no paragraphs, bumping from my phone.

  • Anything above a 2 means that you ovulated, so there's still hope.

    ?

I've taken 50mg of clomid before and ?my progesterone was a 31.

    ?

I'd say that it's low but it's still promising!?

  • were you at 7dpo? the progesterone peaks then, no matter what cd that is. Were you being monitored as far as when ovulation occurred?  Next cycle, make sure you go in at 7dpo for the best reading.

That is very low for a medicated cycle. You are looking for over 15 on a medicated cycle and over 10 on a natural cycle.

  • It depends on when you ovulated.
  • This was with my ob/gyn, and she only did the CD23 b/w. I think it's time to change to an RE, or at least a new dr. I swear it would be easier to get the president on the phone than to actually speak with my dr.
