Is this mean?

We need to wean DD from the bottle.  She still drinks them at naptime and nighttime.  If you tell her she can't have one she screams for hours.  I have not had the energy to stick with taking it away.  What if I put something in it to make it taste bad.  I was thinking of putting a little bit of bitters in the bottle.  I will tell her that I don't know why the bottle tastes bad but that she can drink out of her sippy.  Has anyone tried this?

Re: Is this mean?

  • My DS still takes a night time bottle. ?I'm cool with it. (he also prefers to drink from a bottle in the morning, but he's okay with a cup from lunch-dinner).

How about just offering water in a bottle and milk in a sippy??

  • I would just offer a sippy instead and let her work through it.  Even if you were to put something ill-tasting in a bottle (which I wouldn't), she'll just want a different bottle and cry for one anyway.  So I'd stick to the sippy, let her cry a bit, and she'll catch on.

Whenever I have had to wean DD of something, I didn't do it suddenly one day.  I decided on a deadline and then I would talk about it...as in, "Tomorrow we will be using a sippy like a big girl!"  And I'd tell her that over and over to prep her.  Seems to help a little with transitions.

    Good luck.

  • DD wanted a bottle for a little while after DS was born, so I gave her one with a little formula in it.  She got over her want of a bottle pretty quickly.  I told her that is what comes in a bottle.
