We have a cat whose litter box is downstairs so we're looking for a baby gate that she can get through while still keeping the girls safe. Has anyone seen something like that? If not, how do you handle baby gates and your pets?
a cat should be able to jump over it. I used to have to lock up one of my dogs in a hard floor area of the house and would come home tons of times to find the cat curled up with the dog on the side of the fence that I did not leave her on! LOL
I've looked into this a lot because I'm in the same situation with the litterbox in the basement. Problem with the gates with the ped door is that you have to leave the pet door open all the time and from reading the reviews the pet doors are too big (a 40 lb dog can fit through it) and you child could easily get through.
I asked this question on 6-12 and they said to install the gate 6 inches off the ground. This way a cat can shimmy underneath but no way could your baby's head fit under there. I haven't tried it but this is what I "plan" to do.

Thanks for the tip! We may try this. I'll definitely let you know if it works.
My cat is too old to jump over gates, so I bought gates that could be left open when not in use (Evenflo Top of Stair Gate and First Years Hands Free Gate). During the day when we aren't home and at night once the kids are in bed we just leave the gates open so she can roam at will. If the gates are closed (and we're home) she lets us know that she wants through and we just open the gate or lift her over. It's worked well for us for 4+ years!

Re: Baby gates and pets
most cats could jump over a baby gate (assuming not an elderly cat, etc).
if not - you might need to move the litter box to where the cats are most of the time- or just only have them downstairs.
