Carters vs. Gerber plain white onsies

Any opinions? Are you purchasing one over the other? Is one better or have a different fit?

TIA!

Re: Carters vs. Gerber plain white onsies

  • The gerber ones stretch out around the neck like crazy.  We bought the carters ones.  I think they are thicker and higher quality.

  • Carters, definitely.

I hear the Gerber ones shrink & stretch in awful ways.

  • They feel similar to me in terms of softness.  I look for the tagless kimono-style ones that don't have to go over babys head, sometimes theyre hard to find, so I get them whenever I find them.

  • I never had the Gerber onesies but I did have the regular baby T's and they were terrible. The neck strectched out and when I washed them, they shrunk weird and looked deformed.  I never had any issues with the Carter's items we had.
  • I get most of my clothes from carters for the most part.. 1 they have crazy deals/sales 2 you can always find a 20 percent off or more coupon online if oyu dont get their mail yet... AND this past weekend they had 60 percent off most everything in the store and for every 25 dollars you got 10 dollars off
  • Carters is one of my fav brands for onesies and such!  The clothing seems to run a touch long which is great for making room for the diaper.  They stretch nicely to put over DC's head without looking stretched out.  The sizes seem accurate and DS who is 2 yo, has been right on since birth withe their sizing.  I also LOVE their side snap shirts for the summer days with a newborn.

I won't buy any Gerber clothing after the experience I had with them on my DS.  From day 1, DS couldn't fit into 0-3 in Gerber.  The run TINY.  They are tight and don't have much stretch and I had a tough time getting them over DS's head and only did a few times before deciding not to use them at all.  I do however like their blankets :)

  • Definitely Carters. The Gerber ones would be terrible after just a few washings. Carters have survived my son and my sister's son and will be used for our next little one.
  • Carters are much better quality and thicker. That said, for plain white, I used Gerber for DD, especially since we didn't use onesies all that often, and especially just plain white. If you do go w/ Gerber, just keep in mind that they run at least 1 size smaller then every other brand. Carters runs slightly larger then average.

  • Definitely Carter's. Gerber clothes do run  tiny. I liked their cloth diapers though (I put them down over the changing pad cover to reduce the amount of changing the pad cover I have to do. So much easier to just toss that in the wash and put a new one out.)

  • Thanks ladies. All great info!

I bought a bunch yesterday 50% off and knew there was a reason to justify the extra cost to DH!

  • Carters!  They are def thicker and better than gerber.
  • I am in love with Carter's for DD and have found them to be really durable.  They also fit her much better than the Gerber onsies.  Plus, I think the Gerber fabric is rougher than Carter's, which is a concern for me because DD has a skin condition and we need very soft clothes.  HTH.

  • Gerber should stick to making baby food, not clothing.
  • A friend told me that the Gerber ones shrunk after one wash and Carter's are better.

I don't have any personal experience though.

  • The Gerber are really cheap and thin. They also stretch out really bad in the neck and legs. I always did the Carters. The Gerber side snap t-shirts are v-neck and do not cover much of the chest either.
