RP from 6-12: Vaccine info for 2 under 2 moms

Just a heads up- our pedi won't give Robbie the chicken pox vaccine until I'm at least in my 3rd tri (he may wait longer). Apparently there is a risk to the fetus since the vaccine contains the live virus. Just make sure to let your pedi know that you are expecting if it's not obvious when the time comes for the vaccine!

  • good thing I declined it for DD then...I was not 3rd tri yet and it was offered at her 1 year appointment.

  • You could also get a titer done to see if you are immune if you want to go ahead and get the vaccine...but I see no harm in waiting.

(Except neurotic people like me then worry about their child catching the willd-virus while pregnant.--Ugh.)

  • crap its a little too late for me. I was pretty early in my 1st Trimester when he got the shot.
  • While pregnant with DD#2 my OB was the one that brought this to my attention and it was my pedi who wasn't the least bit concerned.  Needless to say we held off with DD#1's shots until DD#2 was born just to be on the safe side.  Great point to make!!!

Tammy, you're fine.  You'd know if you contracted it;o)  Also, I posted on this under 6-12 that there have only been 3 documented cases ever of someone contracting the virus from a vaccinated person.  I still think it's a valid concern, but nothing to freak over.
