Would you live 4 houses away from your MIL? (clicky poll)

We found a house we LOVE, but it's 4 houses away from my MIL. In my case, this could be both good and bad. Good for childcare, schools, etc...bad because well, its my MIL. :)

I know it's a decision we have to make, but just curious what the nestie consensus it on living that close to the ILs.

  • I said yes bit I love my IL's and they understand the value of giving us our space.  I would have no problems living next door to them.  My parents live within walking distance and it's been fine.

  • I voted no, but that's because my ILs (even though I love them) can get a bit annoying and I KNOW they would be over ever second of the day that they would have free.

Now would I live 4 houses down from MY mom, yes, hands down.  DH would say the same though, no to HIS parents and yes to MY mom.

  • I voted yes, b/c my in-laws are awesome, and they only live a 10 minute walk away right now.  They are very good about calling before they come over.  I think it would be really handy!

  • I said yes but I love my MIL.  She is in a nursing home now but when my older kids were little she was the most loving person ever.  Unfortunately, she would probably say NO.  LOL
  • It's not so much that I wouldn't do it, but I guarantee DH wouldn't live that close to his parents.

  • it depends on what your mil is like...I lived 5 houses down from mine and we may as well have been 30 min away. We saw them maybe once a month and they never dropped by unannounced.
  • there wasn't a clicky option for "no way in hell!"  that would be my vote

  • I voted YES b'cause I love my mil.  My ILs use to live right down the road from us but that was b'fore we had our son.  We didn't see them as often as you would think.  Now that we have our son which is their 5th grandson we see them at least once a wk & they live 10 mins away.  They know to call b'fore stopping by to visit.
  • I voted yest but only because my MIL really only spends time with her other grandchild and while we might see her a little more if we lived closer I still doubt it would be a whole lot.

Besides, I Iike my MIL so I think it would be fine.

  • Yes, because right now she lives IN my house. Four houses away sounds like a dream compared to just downstairs, LOL.
  • I said yes, but my MIL gets the privacy and the "our space" thing. However, I don't know if I'd want to live that close to FIL, who I do love...just not nearly as much as MIL. GL in making your decision.
  • We live around the corner from my IL's and it's great. They're wonderful people.

  • No way. My ILs are BSC. I couldn't do it.
  • I live a 5 min walk from mine.  she swore up and down that it would be like she lived far.  WORST mistake ever.

no, my MIL is a psycho Biotch .
  • I voted yes. I am in the minority I guess. If you asked if I would live that close to my mother, than my answer would be no effing way! I love my MIL.

Ditto. I would rather stick a hot fork in my eye. 4 miles is already too close for me :)?

Ha ha - my first thought was "where's the 'hell no' option?"!

My ILs think they should be living WITH us (cultural thing).  My marriage would last a week, if that.  They cause enough problems for us 20 miles away.

  • There's a home for sale across the street from my inlaws but it's NMS.  I was bummed :-(  I get along better with them (and they are more reliable) than my own parents.
