We have been so lucky to make it almost 16 months with only one minor cold. I knew this day would come. It was so strange though. DS was completely himself all day. He ate well, played, we went to a bbq, went swimming in a pool and went to the beach. DS was as happy as could be. As we were getting ready to leave the beach DS became extremely fussy and DH said that he stepped on something, we thought maybe a sharp shell and we saw a puncture mark on his foot. We hurried home, he fell asleep in the car, we got home and DS woke up but was burning up, lathargic and had no interest in eating or drinking anything. We took his temp and it was 102. So I thought that since it came on so fast that maybe he got stung by something at the beach on his foot. We rushed him to the ER. On the way his eyes started crossing and rolling back in his head (maybe a febril seizure?). I thought I was losing him. I thought he was in shock or something. It was so scary. I almost got in an accident on the way there. We got to the ER and DS was screaming. He has never been like this. I kept telling the people in the waiting room that it was an emergency and he needed to get in right away. They were all acting like it was no big deal. Anyway, we got back and it turned out to be an ear infection. I kept asking them if it was normal to come on so fast and they said it could. They gave him tylenol and amoxicilin. He is sleeping peacefully now. Seeing your baby feeling so bad is the worst feeling in the wold. I hope he feels better tomorrow.
Re: first fever, first trip to the ER, first ear infection
Sounds scary! You'll be surprised at how quickly the amoxicilin works though. DS had an ear infection where he would wake up screaming and there was nothing that would help day one on amox and he was so much better.
Hope he feels better soon!
