divorce in Texas - need guidance

Hi I need some guidance.  Does it matter who files?  I am a full time student but I have been applying for a few jobs and H is unemployed as he was laid off in April.  We no longer have a home loan together, we sold our house about two months ago.  I would like to get basic information, what about child support since he is unemployed?  And he was a self employed, contract worker, so he does not get a real paycheck, so unemployment is not an option.  We are living with my family right now so rent is not an issue for me.  If there is any other questions I need to answer just ask.  Thanks.

Re: divorce in Texas - need guidance

  • I *think* that if you file first you might have the upper hand.

I'd recommend doing a "free consult" with a lawyer to see what they can tell you.

Do you need Legal Aid? If so, call and request it. Only 1 person from 1 household can use it from what I know at least in Texas.

  • I *think* if you file then you pay for the documents that are written up? Unless you have something written in the documents that says he pays for half of all fees?? I am sorry you are going through this. Best of luck (HUGS)
