Feeding the ducks in Raleigh?

When I was a kid, I remember my favorite park was at the lake in High Point. We would play on the playground and then feed the ducks and the ducks would all come up around us and stand waiting to be fed.

I have yet to find anything like this around here and a google search is doing me no good. Anybody find a good place?

  • I know Pullen Park has a lake with ducks, but I'm not sure if you're allowed to feed them.

  • I'm pretty sure you'll find ducks and/or geese at Shelly Lake or Lake Lynn.  However, you may have to walk a ways around to find them (Shelly has a pretty nice playground too).  Growing up we used to feed the ducks at our neighborhood park, Brookhaven Park.  It's a small park near Crabtree Mall (at Glenwood Ave & Creedmoor Road) with a pond that always has a small family of ducks.

  • Becki and I just met at Lake Lynn on Friday to go feed the ducks w/ Caleb and the little girl I nanny for.  They advise you NOT to feed them because they can get aggressive - and sometimes they are intimidating, but if you walk around and find a safe spot from the bridges rather than standing on the water's edge it's a little safer.  HTH!
