Pikler Method - anyone do?

Anyone familiar with this parenting / caregiving concept?  I've been reading and think the ideas sound really good.  I only wish I had known about some of it earlier.  For those in the know, can it be successfully started with a toddler (DD is 13 1/2 months)?
