It's early enough that we are not emotionally attached to these names, so you can be honest.
DH & I went through a baby name book recently and he picked these two and loves them now. I like them because they're unusual but they're also kind of classic/older names.
But my worry is they're just a little too funky, especially Felix. I know people say our opinion is the only one that matters, but I don't want family members to be cringing behind our backs. I know DH's family secretly cringes over the name my SIL gave her baby! - so I'm nervous about doing anything even a little non-traditional.
Re: WDYT of Felix? How about Fiona?
I really like Fiona. I don't think that is "out there" at all!
And I LOVE Felix....too bad it would sound weird with our last name.
Yeah, I am wondering if the Felix the cat reference will ever go away. The cartoon hasn't been on since the 1950's so it's kind of crazy that people still make that association! I'm sure our kids probably won't know what it is.
The Shrek thing doesn't bother me, though I thought of it. It would be hard to think of a name that's never been in a movie.
I really don't like Felix. I didn't think of the cat, but I did think of the fact that there have been several pope's named Felix...I don't think everyone will think of that (I think I'm even a little odd for thinking it), but it's a connection I can't shake.
Fiona, on the other hand, I like, I always think of the beautiful dancer from the musical Brigadoon, not Shrek:)
Hey Ibis! Good to see you over here! And congratulations!!!!!!!
Fiona = okay. I don't think it's weird at all, and I actually think it seems to be on it's way to becomming trendy. There's a chance that people may think of Shrek with this name. I think Fiona sounds very British, in a good way.
Felix = the cat. Sorry, can't get past this one. I also kind of feel like it's a name that might get a little boy beat up on the playground.
Also, I really don't think the Felix = cat association is going to go away in this generation. That cartoon wasn't on in my day (I'm pretty sure I've never seen it!), but I still have that association.
I'd have to say that Fiona is a nice name, just NMS.
I don't like Felix - there's just something about it. I know there are many people out there named Felix, but it's definitely NMS.
Fiona is VERY British. I don't like the name because it's DH's XW's name.
LOVE Fiona!
Felix is NMS...it reminds me of The Odd Couple. Wasn't that one of their names?
My friend just named her baby boy Felix, and I in general like it.
Fiona is one of our top picks for a little girl! It's one of the prettier (and easier to read) Irish names!
I love Felix - associate with cat and character on "Road to Avonlea" and character on "The Odd Couple" TV show
I like Fiona - associate with Shrek
