Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

starting a new day care

So were moving in three weeks just as soon as DS has got used to his new classroom. I feel terrible about starting him at a new daycare, I can't stop worrying about how he will adjust and if he'll like the kids and how are his teachers, etc. I love his day care now and so sad we have to leave them.Does anyone have any tips if they switched day cares at all? I'm wondering if the 1st week we should just do like 4 hours at a time. Any thoughts?

Re: starting a new day care

  • DS was only 8 months when I switched him to a facility closer to our home, so I'm sure it's different with a toddler, but I just took him in there two or three times before he started and let him see and play in the infant room for a while. I got to talk to the teachers as well. He did fine the first day.

  • I could have written this post!  We moved 3 weeks ago and for the month of May I decided to keep ds at his same daycare (that he loves!) until he was able to transition right into the toddler room (15 months).  He starts at his new place on June 1st and I am having great anxiety about the transition.

I plan to stop in there with him twice next week on our way home from work just to say hi and let him see the place again.  The first day he starts there I'm going to go with him and just stay for an hour or two and let him warm up to the teacher and kids.  Second and third day I'm just going to do 1/2 days and then the last two days of the week I'll do all day.

    Good luck!
