Looks like I might end of being a SAHM

Sorry I just need to vent/share this somewhere.  I have known for 4 months that my office would be closing in 2011.  Since then I have had the option to move to another office a few states away.  Today I received notice that office will be closing in August.  I really enjoy my job and the company that work for.  However I currently make less than 1/3 of our household income and there are tons of rumors of layoff notices.  We haven't decided what we are going to do yet, but every time we run the numbers it never makes sense to move.  The only two things that makes it make sense is that we don't really like the area we live in.  Also DH isn't the biggest fan of his job and would really like to find a new one. In the economy though this just doesn't make sense.  He makes a very good wage and his company is hiring and not laying off.

  • Well, the good news is you'll probably get a severance or at least unemployment.  If you need out of the house time you could always sign DC up for mother's day out and do some volunteering.  That might even lead to a job in the future.  Hope it works out for you guys!  DH was laid off 6 months ago and has been a SAHD since then and it's worked out pretty well for us!

  • Well, it stinks to find yourselves in that spot -- hopefully, some kind of good change will come soon.  I can't blame you for not wanting to move for a company that seems unstable.  I am always one to stay with the sure thing, too.

Have you looked for a new job?  The economy is not great, but you could get lucky.

    Good luck.

  • I'm sorry to hear you are losing your job.  It just plain stinks.  I think the up side to this is taht you have a couple of months before it happens.  In that time, you can start saving more and even look for something else.  It doesn't have to be your dream job, or even FT, but if you want to work, there is probably something out there.

I'm a worrier, so I would probably not move and encourage your DH to stay put for a while.
