North Carolina Babies

Daycare question(s)

When should I start looking into daycare?  I'm obviously not pregnant, but I'm hoping that changes soon.  I've heard such horror stories about wait lists, and I don't want to get "stuck" having to take the baby to a daycare that is ridiculously priced because I don't have any other options.

Also, any recommedations for daycares in the Durham/Chapel Hill area?

Re: Daycare question(s)

  • I'm pretty sure that you can't get on a WL until you're pregnant. But as soon as you get that BFP, I'd say that is the time to start getting on some WL's! It wouldn't hurt to check them out now, so that you have a list of ones you like when the time comes! Holly is in a center at my DH's work, so I'm not familiar with any in your area. GL!

  • We started looking when I was about 15 weeks, ended up on 3 waitlists, and got into all three.  I had the feeling that we were behind the same set of people on each one, so as people started filling spaces, it opened up really quickly.

The one we went with was a recommendation from a coworker of my H, so I would start by asking around people you know.

  • Pretty much all daycare's for infants are going to be very costly, like $900-$1300 a month or more.  Most places will have you get on a waitlist around your 18th week of pregnancy or sooner. Primrose schools can have a wait list of 18 months or more. I have found with the economy the way it is a lot of schools have openings because people are losing jobs left and right and pulling out their children.
