if not a drop side crib.. whats my other options? so confused?

really dumb question here, but i am hearing more and more to avoid purchasing a drop side crib as "they" may be stopping production on them for being unsafe for baby etc. so what am i looking for as an alternative? just a stationary crib, where i bend down to pick up baby? sounds like thats the only other option but i'm new to this so i could be missing something, wouldn't be the first time:)

  • They also make cribs where part of the side flips down, just not the whole side like a drop-side crib.

The drop-gate is a small portion of the top front side that can be let down to access your child without moving the whole front. Benefits of the drop-gate:

    • - This is a patented mechanism that has a beveled construction that prevents finger pinching and
    • - The design requires both latches to be engaged/disengaged simultaneously, thereby refraining small children to access the baby.
    • - The drop-gate front is also very quiet and lets you access your child without creating the noise of the entire front moving up and down.
    • - Can be converted into 3 different stages: a crib, toddler bed (no additional purchases required) and an adult, full-sized bed (bed rails required).

  • the crib that I got is pretty short, so I think a woman of smaller stature wouldn't need a dropside crib with the one I have.

  • I don't think you'll have to worry much about it... there aren't many drop side cribs on the market that I know of, anyway!  Most of the cribs that we looked at at BRU, etc., were non-drop-side.

We chose the Delta Richmond crib.

There are many, many others w/o drop sides.

  • if you are really short- Ikea cribs are a great choice. they are lower than most cribs.

remember- when baby is an infant the mattress will be on the highest setting- so it's not hard to reach in... and when you have to drop the mattress- baby can already sit/pull up - so it's easier to get him/her in and out (though not if sleeping... but it's not good to get in the habit of laying baby down when they are alreday asleep)
