sad baby bird story

My dh was sitting out on the porch having a beer after the kids went to bed.  He came in and totld me we were having "a bad outcome for a baby bird." He said he was sitting outside and realized a bird built a nest in my neighbor's gutter (we live in a townhouse so he was sitting right next to the gutter).  All of a sudden he heard this screech and scrapping and realized the bird built the nest right over the drain and the baby at slid all the way down the two story height gutter!  then he got stuck at the bend towards the bottom.  So I go out there and I can hear the little bird squaking and scrapping.  It is breaking my heart.  I wish there is something I could do.  I am afraid even if we got the bird out, we have ferral (sp?) cats in the neighborhood that would probably get a hold of it.  geez..I don't know what to do.

Aw, that is sad. Those baby birds are so cute.  My parents had a nest in a low bush ,adn we watched those birds everynight.

don't feel too bad...I aborted a bird tonight....that's right, I killed it before it was born.  The egg must have fallen out of the nest into our yard, and I ran over it with the lawnmower....opps
