s/o potty training - when and how to start

I hadn't even started thinking about potty training until I saw some of the posts here.  Is there a certain age that its recommended to introduce the potty, or does it (as with so many things) differ greatly depending on the child?  Do you start by just introducing the idea (putting them on a potty or seat)?  LOL - we still haven't tackled STTN, I'm so not ready to think about potty training.

Hats off to anyone on this board who is starting to potty train. Maybe if I only had one DC it would be easier, but I'm just starting to push using the potty with DD now and she's 2.5 y/o.

Have not even begun to think about it. I don't think it will even enter my realm of thought until two years.

I posted about this earlier. I don't push it on ds at all but am starting to expose him to the concept. It seems silly to me for him to sit there in the highchair and poop right in front of me and me not do anything (especially now that we use cloth and I have to dump and clean the poop!). Anyway, mine started with putting him on there to poop when he started making his poop face. That seemed to work well so I've tried putting him on there after he eats and after he wakes up from a nap. I tell him to pee pee in the potty. He does about 1/2 the time. The other half the time we never sit longer than 30 seconds and if he hasn't gone then we get up and put his diaper on. At this point I don't expect him to hold it at all and I don't expect him to be able to signal to me yet when the urge hits him. However, I figure it can't hurt to allow him to go in there during times when I know he's going to go (after a nap, after the poop face, etc).
