Good news is I have a job

Bad news is, they moved my grade level and classroom.

So I am not glad.  I am pissy b/c I want to work with my friends! (Yes, I know this sounds childish) Or I at least want the same lunch as them. And I don't want to do the required standardized test prep that comes with this grade

I know that the correct response is, "Thank you, Mr. Principal, for giving me back the well paying job that I love, despite the current economic situation and the fact that I have taken off 2 of the past 3 years".

But I can still complain here, right?!

ugh! that sucks! I hated that test prep w/ a passion! what grade? I had 8th grade. ?I'm sorry. ?But yeah, it's a job and that's good, but it's still okay to complain!

Absolutely.  I would be frustrated at the least.  Everyone wants to do what they are comfortable and accustomed to.  My friend offered me a PRN position at a nursing facility with great pay and super flexible hours but I still don't want to do it because I don't want to leave my comfort zone.

omg, sis i miss somethign was ur job in jeopardy? what grade are u teaching now? ive been moved to 3rd and will loop back to 4th with that class, YEAH! sense my excitement!

I'm sorry, Melissa!  I mean, I am happy you have a job but I completely understand being sad about not working / lunching with your friends.  I am the same way!

You are going to laugh at me, but I am moving from first to second. It really is a bigger deal than it sounds. First is still very primary, which I like. Second begins the standardized testing nonsense, which I want no part of.

Nicole- yes, they didn't pass our budget, so the expected teachers weren't going to retire. They ironed out the budget, layed off some low performing teachers, and bringing back all of us on maternity

I have some 2nd grade books if you want to borrow them.  They are the mailbox books from when I did a maternity leave.

aw THANK GOD! we also went through that w/brian bc they cut alot of non-tenureds and being he is a 1st yr in his new district we fig'd hed be gone, but he does so much extracurricular so they love him!

my bldg is doing the whole looping thing so

1 is going to 2

2 to 1

3 to 4 aqnd

4to 3 i know how u feel im no happy either but 3 rd is less stressed upon w/the test tho and we dont have to move our rooms THANK GOOD!!!!

Wow, that looping thing sounds crazy! I didn't realize that Brian moved districts. He isn't in JC anymore?

Michelle- thanks for the offer! I did teach 2nd for the 4 months before I left for mat with Gina (that's why they are putting me there, for my vast 'experience') but I may take you up on it next year.

Aw! I'm sorry you are being moved away from your friends!! I TOTALLY get how important it is to teach with people you enjoy. My friends at school have gotten me through some very frustrating times! With that said, I taught second grade for four years before I went PT in K (and now in 1st). I get what you are saying about first grade being more primary. I think/hope you will be pleasantly surprised with second grade. I don't know anything about the test prep b/c second grade is not a testing grade in NY but I loved second while I was there. The kids are that much more independent but they still are babies in some ways. I don't think they have the "sass" that third graders sometimes have. If I hadn't been given the opportunity to go PT when Evan was a baby I think I would have stayed in second forever. It'll be great and hopefully you'll still get to have lunch/some common time with your old teammates!

yeah he is in Paterson now too at a HS academy tho. He actually went to the prom tonight HA!!!! he is SO much happier and well we all are happier needless to say!

JC was just getting too out of hand. admin switched and were not very supportative AT ALL!!!!

Oh, I've been there and boo.  Last year, I jumped out of my comfort zone and bid for another school within our district because it was going to be less than a mile from dd's new preschool-8 school.  I left behind my lunch buddies but got great news today, one of them bid to my school.  So yeah, I love my new school and my friend will be with me again.  I'm upper grade and love the upper grades.  Bless you lower grade teachers.

oparcm- I love the babies! I don't think I could deal with the attitudes, and I admittedly get intimidated when students are bigger than me

Nicole- wow, good for you guys! I don't think I could work with my DH although you guys technically don't. That's great that he is happier.

Molly- thanks! I know that I will like the second graders, I will just miss my friends. I'm sure I will adjust though b/c I really do love teaching.

Oh no!  I'm so very sorry!  I know how much you were hoping to get back into your classroom and I can completely understand your disappointment/frustration.

Vent here all you want.  And congratulations on getting a job back, even if it wasn't your first choice.
