Is It Normal to be this uncomfortable already??

I am only 21.2 weeks with triplets and am so uncomfortable already. My back is KILLING me and so are my ribs. Does the fact that my placentas are all anterior affect the pain in my back> Is it safe to use a heating pad? what did you all do to ease the pain? Lastly, is it normal to feel this cucky already or am I being a whiner because I feel like one. Thanks for any input. -Marcie

Re: Is It Normal to be this uncomfortable already??

  • I can't answer about the heating pad, but yep I pretty much went from feeling queasy all the time to feeling huge with no in-between fun pregnancy feeling that women pg with singletons have. ?I say I went from 1st tri morning sickness to third tri uncomfortableness with no 2nd tri to actually enjoy being pregnant! ?Tis the nature of the beast, I guess. ?
  • It's normal but I don't think it was really bad for me until after 30 weeks.

  • My backs been killing me too off and on for a while now, so I don't think that it's abnormal.  I don't know about the heating pads - I would definitely ask your dr about that.  I'm so hot right now I can't even think about heating pads though!
  • I was fairly uncomfortable starting around 25-27 weeks, but that was with twins....you're having triplets so I would think you would be uncomfortable much earlier. I think a heating pad for your back for 10-15 min would be fine and leave it off for at least 45 min. I know one pg mom who alternated heat and ice for her back. She kept an ice pack in the fridge at home and work and just put it on her back for about 10-15 min several times a day.

Pain comes with the territory so it's just a matter of finding a way to deal with it. It doesn't go away and there's no way to ever be comfortable. There were times I would just cry in the middle of the night because I just wanted to be comfortable.

Is there someone who can give you a gentle back massage? That helps.

You're not being a whiner!! If anyone understand it's the gals on this board so whine away!!

  • Around 21 weeks I had really bad RLP in my back.  I would ask your dr about the heating pad, mine was fine with me using it, but I don't have anterior placentas.   To help the pain, I use heating pads, do stretches for my back, I bought one of those massaging roller balls and my husband uses it on my back nightly and I go in for massages. At least for me the RLP lasted for about 2 weeks and was super intense, but went away and then I just had normal back/hip pain, which was more manageable. Since then I have periods where my back & hipos are worse than others, which I'm guessing is when the babies are having a growth spurt.

Don't feel like a whiner!  You have 3 babies growing inside you!

  • My ribs are ALWAYS hurting.  I feel like someone is hanging from them- possible holding onto them with little fingers:)  I have been very lucky so far because my back hasn't bothered me but I can tell you that my legs have been bothering me like crazy!  I've always had RLS but it is unbearable now!!!  That and the fact that my feet have started to swell because of the heat.

I certainly wouldn't say that you are a whiner- I think that we can all sympathize!!

  • OMG my RLS is magnified times 10. I wanna scream sometimes. Oh well, this too shall pass. -Marcie
  • omg! i was uncomfortable since day one practically! you sound like you are actually doing better than i was! you are having three and i am only having two! i totally understand!!!

i asked my doctor last week if it was ok if i used one of those heating pads on my back and she said it was fine but ONLY on my back and never on my stomach. also, make sure it isnt too hot. i use one of those heating pads you put in the microwave rather than the plug in kind. it makes me feel safer for some reason!

and-- you arent a whiner-- its hard work!!! it is a total shock to your body!!!  the heating pad is the only thing i have found that relieves my back pain! it also helps with siatic nerve pain, too! i hope you dont get that!!! good luck and you are not alone! dont worry!
