Any tips to help teach DS to eat veggie finger foods?

I have tried giving DS veggies in forms other than purees but it never goes well. I think its  the texture or something but he usually tries the veggie I put out (Peas, broccoli, etc) and spits it out. It can't be the flavor because he gobbles up the purees.

Does anyone have any tips?

  • Try the Morning Star Veggie Bites. They look kind of like chicken nuggets - they have some that are pretty yummy, like broccoli cheese Big Smile Good Luck!

  • give him green beans.

and make them stand up like little soliders. (the cut ones from a can work well)--- and make them 'walk' across his tray and talk to him.

yes corny. however my dd loves it and snatches them right up and eats them.

    show him how.

  • I mix veggies in with rice or pasta and feed it to him from my plate, with my utensil.  he eats anything that way.  we are starting to transition him back to his own plate, and his own utensil, and it's working great.

  • My boys were the same way the first few days.  But then I had the genius idea of melting shredded cheese on top of the veggies and they ate them right up.  Then I just slowly decreased the amount of cheese I sprinkled on each time until they were eating it without cheese.  I swear my boys would eat just about anything with cheese on it!!
  • have you tried very mushy veggies?

DS started with diced baked sweet pots with alittle garlic, diced baked carrots, diced winter squash, canned green beans, diced baked apples and pears.

    Does he eat fruits?

Yes, he eats fruits but only certain ones as finger foods. As of right now I have been putting broccoli in his grilled cheese and making quesadillas with veggies again sneaking in.. :)

I think maybe you are on to something with the mushiness factor. I usually use frozen veggies and maybe they are just not soft enough.

How do you make frozen veggies more mushy? lol

You can do either. Oven 16-18 min. (I think they're best this way) or micro. 80-85 sec.
