Baby Names

revisiting a couple of old favorites... tell me what you think..

When ds was being named, we had a couple of choices for girl names that I really loved. My favorite was Katherine Jane, nn Kitty after my grandmothers - and yes, G'ma did go by Kitty. Well, then someone told me that Kitty was slang for another female body part that gets called a different term for cat. Totally ruined Kitty for me...

The other name I loved was Elizabeth Hannah - my mom and her g'ma's name. If we had a dd named this, she would be the third in six generations. We would use the nn Lily, but dropped this idea when it seemed like Lily was just too popular, even for us (and hey, we named our son Jack).

We've since replaced the above names with Julia Catherine and Caroline Jane...

What do you think? Am I right about Kitty and Lily, and which names do you prefer? Thanks!

  • I like all of them, but I like Lily the best.

Oh, and I'd never think that about the nn Kitty.

The nickname Kitty is awful, vajayjay reference or not.  I think Lily is a great nickname.

  • I love Kitty, and I have never ever went "there" when I hear it!

All three are gorgeous. Caroline is our #1 name, but if we have another daughter she will be named either Julia, Elizabeth or Catherine. I love Jane and Hannah as well. You can't go wrong with those names. Lily is really popular, but it's adorable. I didn't realize we had such similar taste in names!
  • I like all your names but I really love Catherine/Katherine and I think the nn Kitty is really cute. I never thought of it in reference to vajayjay.
  • Of course I love Lily. I also like Hannah Elizabeth, and then Caroline Jane.

    NO on Kitty.

  • I like Elizabeth Hannah and Caroline Jane. I like Katherine Jane also but hate the nn Kitty. Yes, it is commonly a nn for the vagina. I think Kate would be a better nn. I still like the nn Lily or Liz or Lizzy. You could also call her Eliza or Beth.
  • I think Julia is really cute. And although Lily is getting popular I think you would be safe to use it. I don't know any Lily's and I have never heard of anyone considering it(other than on these boards). I have heard "Kitty" being used as a nick name for a certain lady part.

*I looked Lily up on the social security name list and it is ranked #24, Julia is #40

  • Why can't you still use Katherine Jane but not go by Kitty?

I've never heard that as a nn, though, for our body part - but honestly, I don't like it as a nn regardless.

  • DD is Elizabeth Grace with the nn Ellie.

There is a Kitty on the show Brothers and Sisters and I always wondered what it was short for!

  • I love all the names you picked, I am all about classics like that.

Don't worry about the cooter reference. . . .it's just like when someone doesn't like a Katherine they knew back in high school, so they don't want to name their daughter that. . . . as soon as your precious girl is here, she will be the only Katherine that matters.

  • I LOVE Jane

It's so simple, and seriously not very common anymore, it will never be misspelled or mispronounced, it's classic feminine and pretty without being too cutesy. I vote Jane or Julia (also beautiful) or Juliette (randomly threw that in) with Catherine Caroline or Elizabeth as middles

Lily is so super common now, it's pretty, but if your worried about it being overused, I personally know three kids named Lily

  • Thanks, everyone. I do like all the names, but I'm still worried about the unfortunate Kitty reference, and dh's cousin (whom we see once a year) has a little Lily..

I guess we'll keep thinking about these possibilities.. It's so hard to narrow it down!
