Adoption

Help - Adoption Profile

I hope somebody can help me.  My husband and I are all finished with our adoption process, we were so excited because we thought we would be turning in our adoption profile this week and we would be in the book.  A social worker from our agency checked our profile out for us and told us that we need to make it more eye catching.  All we did was up load pictures and our letter and took them to kinko's to have them printed out.  She showed us examples of other profiles, some looked like they did a digital scrapbooking.  You could tell they knew what they were doing or had a professional do them.  Ours did not compare to what she showed us.

My question is can any of you give me a direction on were to go with this.  Did you do it your self using a perticular software or had a company do it for you? Do you recommend a place to go or company? We are so frustrated because we don't know what to do.  Our profile can only be one page front and back (8.5x11).  I have looked on the internet and I can't seem to get anywhere.

Thanks for you help.

Re: Help - Adoption Profile

  • When we did our second one, I looked online at advertising and printing companies. I found some magazine ad prints that I liked and used them for inspiration - color layout, etc. Ours was very simple, but professional looking. Not cutesy. We've had many folks ask us for the name of the company that did it. We used Publisher to do our layout. I know a lot of ladies on here have used some online scrapbooking programs.?

I would highly suggest using a professional printer to print. They have better paper and printers. Ours looked night and day between Kinkos and ?a professional printer. Since yours is only one page, it shouldn't be a huge sticker shock issue. Also, you might find a printer who will do it pro bono. We did. ?

  • www.scrapblog.com - we did not use this as our agency makes all profiles look identical (except your own pictures/info) but I saw someone else use it on here and I now use it for my personal scrapbooking

  • We used www.snapfish.com.  They have great pre-made templates that make the process super-easy and our books came out looking great!  They also offer a discount if you order more than 1 book (which we had to have 3 so it really helped!).  You can also google promo codes to cut the costs down even more!

  • For our profiles, I did make a scrapbook album.  It's my hobby, so it just seemed like the only way for us to go!  We were warned that some BM's think this would be "trying to hard" or "over-done."  In our case, it worked out for the best, BM even asked if she could keep a copy of the book for herself...I know we made the right choice!

I have 2 books from snapfish.com and they are fantastic...one I made myself and one I received as a gift...they are excellent quality!

I have also been looking into on-line scrapbooking and am interested to check out the other sight listed above...the one I was looking into is

    https://www.howfasttheygrow.com/

It says home of the 7 minute scrapbook page...maybe worth a look:)

We found writing the letter and selecting our pics to be the hardest parts, so just think you are already done w/ that part!!

     GOOD LUCK!!

  • I do graphic design as a career (well, I write and design political materials like palmcards and direct mail). Anyways, I was able to do ours in the same design software I use for work.

If yours really just has to be one page (front and back) I'd be happy to do it for you (for free, of course!). Just PM me if you're interested and I'll send you my email.
