Mastitis or Thrush, anyone had either??

I definately have a breast infection. Hot bewbies, stabbing/jagged pain in surrounding breast tissue--even when pumping--that lasts all day, slight fever. I am trying to get into OB today or tomorrow--already requested an appointment.

Just wanted to hear from anyone that has had either infection...I know that they are completely different infections, however they have some overlapping symptoms. I am thinking that it is more likely Mastitis, as I don't feel well at all. But thrush (yeast infection of the breast/mouth) can make you feel icky too.

Just wanted to know what people's experiences with these two infections were. What treatment worked best and what can I do, while I am waiting for the doctors to get back to me, to feel better.  I feel AWFUL!!

We had thrush for months on end with DD. I never got a fever, just itchy painful bewbies. And she had white spots all over her mouth. I'm guessing you have a clogged duct or an infection.    Poor thing.  Do hot showers help any?  What about putting warm/hot rags on them after pumping or BFing?

Hang in there mama, get into the doctor ASAP!

I had mastitis and had a fever. It helped that I took a hot shower then pumped afterwards. I also tried to nurse my dd at the angle the clogged duct was at and it seemed to work.  Drink lots of water and get as much rest as possible too.  Oh, and try to massage the lump so that you can get things flowing again.  My ob prescribed me antibiotics.

Hi Katie, I'm sorry you are feeling so crappy! From what you described, it sounds to me more like mastitis (though I'm certainly no expert). I did have some thrush when Max was a few weeks old, it wasn't very major though. I just had one sore nipple and he had a white tongue. How does Max's mouth look? If you see white spots (especially on places other than the tongue, per my pediatrician) then thrush is likely.

 I hope you get in with your OB soon and they can make it feel better!

I only feel better when I have warm/cold on. When I take them off, the pain returns. Showers are great while I am in them. I think that it is probably Mastitis.

I have an appointment at 3:50, with my midwife...so yay!

DH called in sick, to take care of me and baby. I have been told not to breastfeed until after my appointment, which to be honest, is music to my ears right now because my boobs hurt sooooo bad and pumping is the lesser of two evils. (Yes I did call BFing evil, you would too if you were me at this moment!!) Good thing I have about 15 ounces of expressed breast milk this morning. I am not a power pumper yet.

So I am going to take advantage of my sweet husband and drink a Guiness/take a nap, while he feeds the baby. Hopefully both will do me a world of good! (I know the Guiness will!!)
