What is considered STTN?

I've seen so many people on other boards say that their LO is STTN. What do you consider STTN? 5 or 6 hours straight? 8pm-6am??

?My DD will sleep 5 hours; wake up for feeding, and then go right back to sleep for another 3 hours. Some times I have to get up twice in the middle of the night depending on when we put her down for bed.?

Re: What is considered STTN?

  • My pedi told us that STTN for young babies is double the lengh of time they go between feedings. So for Maggie at 2 months, that was about 6 hours.

  • I considered DD STTN when she regularly slept 6+ hours per night.

I guess I considered it STTN when she didn't have a middle of the night (or early morning) feeding anymore. When she went from her nighttime snack to breakfast and being up for the day.

Sounds like your LO is doing well though. Five hours is definitely nothing to sneeze at!
  • Similar to what KristenB said, our pedi defined it as 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep. ?

  • LOL, I'll tell ya, MY definition of STTN is when I can go to bed and don't get woken up before, say, 6am. Lately Kady has been sleeping from about 7:30pm until feedings around 1 and 5am, so although she's probably technically STTN, it sure doesn't feel like it to me!
