Hi~  I just saw your post on your dd having a sleep study at CHOP.  My ds is having one on June 2nd.  Are you scheduling through the regular sleep center or the NICU sleep center?  Ours is being done through the NICU sleep center and apparently it is much quicker to get in with them.  Ours could have been done next week if we were able to, but we will be away.  The NICU usually does the sleep studies for children under 2.  Just a thought.  If you are able to get it done before we go, please let me know how it goes.  I am really dreading it.  When I scheduled it they told be we have to get there around noon, they talk with us, then hook him up to everything.  The sleep study nurses leave around 3:30 or 4 and he is hooked up for the night and unable to leave the area of his bed.  He is 18 months old, 15 months corrected and I don't know what I am going to do with him until his bed time at 7-7:30.  He won't watch tv or movies, so I am at a loss.  I know your dd is younger, but I was just looking for an expirence.  I hope everything goes well and that you get in soon.  I'm sorry for all of the difficulty with this.   Rachel

Hi! ?Glad to find someone in the same boat!

Our sleep study is scheduled through the regular sleep center. ?It took us 3 1/2 months to get the appointment! ?When/If our Dr ever calls us back (she has the worst follow through I've ever seen in a Dr) I will definitely ask her about the NICU sleep center. ?I wonder why she didn't suggest it in the first place? ?If you don't mind me asking, why is your dd having a sleep study? ?Maybe they are being monitored for different things? ?Hmmmm....

We are to arrive at our sleep study at 6:30pm and they will hook her up around 8pm. ?Lights/TV/Cell phones/etc are all out at 9:30pm and the monitoring continues until 7am the next day. ?I am planning on bringing her aquarium crib toy since she won't go to sleep without it and some small toys she can play with while lying down. ?I am just as anxious as you about the entire thing. ?They managed to get us in July 22, but have us on a high priority wait list that will hopefully get us in sometime early June. ?We'll see.....

Thanks for paging me. ?I will definitely reach out to you with the details if we go before you. ?Otherwise, look me up after yours and fill me in! ?Good luck!

    Corey?

  • DS is having one for possible sleep apnea due to enlarged adnoids.  The ENT at CHOP ordered it.  I am glad that the NICU is doing it, even  though he is going to have to be hooked up longer, he goes to bed between 7 and 7:30 so if we did the regular one I think it would be too late for him.  I may be repeating myself, but we get a call around 10am on the day we are scheduled telling us what rom we go to.  They consider it a voluntary admission, and we are admitted over night to what ever room they have available.  We are to get there around noon, the doc's examine him and then the sleep center doc and nurse come and evaulate him and get him hooked up.  He goes to bed at his regular time and we are there until about noon the next day.  We should have the results by the time we leave, vs.. if it is done in the sleep center, it takes a week.  If you don't mind me asking, why is your dd having it?  I'm surprised no one told you about the NICU center.  Our doc said they do pretty much all of them for babies under 2 or 3 yrs old.  I am going to try and get him some new toys and my mom is going to come by for a new face.  I think it is going to be hard to keep him in his crib for 6+ hours when he is feeling fine and wants to walk everywhere.  They are also testing him for reflux with a probe down his nose overnight.  He has been off of reflux meds for 3+ months, so we'll see.  If you get a chance shoot me an email, and I'll let you know how it goes since ours is in 2 weeks.  rkmassaro at verizon.net.  Good Luck!  Rachel
