I love name James and it goes well with our last name.
We have a friend called James who we see from time to time. Would it be strange to name our child James seeing as we have a friend with the same name?
If yes what are some other names that have a similar sound. ie one syllabe, soft sounding, maybe ending in "s".
So far I thought of Miles.
Other thoughts.?

Re: Name ideas that sound like....
I don't think it would be weird, but I would ask him... I'm sure your friend would be excited about it. ?I love Miles too, James Miles or Miles James sounds cute! ?Try the baby names site, see my link below, click on it to get there and then you can make your own. ?GL!?
What about Seth?
?
I think it would depend on just how much you see this guy, but I'd go ahead and use it. I don't think I'd ask him about it, though. You don't need his permission and I think that makes it seem like you're intentionally naming the baby after him.
FWIW, I like Miles, too.
I think it's fine! Especially because it's a common name...he probably knows a few other people named James as well.
I LOVE James and it was on our list for a boy. Congrats!
I love James. We almost used it as a first name but I didn't want him to go by Jamie or Jim or similar. I think it's a common enough name that I don't think it's weird unless this is your bestest friend and then I would clear it.
I also like Miles--it's getting popular where I am. Other names with a long vowel ending in the s sound are Pierce and Reece (Reece is also popular where I live).
I don't think it would be weird. James is a very common name.
Other suggestions: Thomas, Moses, Matthias, Silas, Hollis, Myles, Charles, Davis, Ross, Ames, Amos, Blais, Eames, Ellis, Hayes, Holmes, Mayes, Niles, Piers, Reeves, Reyes, Rhodes, Rhys, Russ, Wes.
I don't think it is weird at all. James is fairly common and timeless. It's not like his name is Barack and now you're naming your kid Barack. lol
I love James. Miles is nice too. I also love Charles.
Others I can think of are Lars, Brooks, Mats, Nils and Niles. I don't really like them though.
