Cervix position/texture in early pregnancy?

Just curious - I'm seeing a lot of variance on the internets.  Does anyone know what the cervix is supposed to be like and position it is supposed to be in during the early weeks of pregnancy?

The only thing I know is that I had a low sitting cervix before getting pregnant that would sometimes make certain sexual positions uncomfortable. Now our positions are even more restricted because the cervix is sitting even lower. When I asked my OB/GYN about this she told me that the cervix sits lower from the very start of the pregnancy to protect the baby. Of course as you get closer to delivery it drops even more, but it should already be low. I don't know anything about texture.

Be careful about checking your cervix during early pregnancy as it could vary and cause unneccesary worry.  Around 6.5-7w my cervix was really low and I freaked out thinking I was going to miscarry but it is now back to high and soft.  I think the best descriptor is like a plum.  It feels soft yet hard.  And it is really long.

I havent checked mine.... or had sex for that matter. We are paranoid as can be. I want to start having sex again and was wondering if it would be uncomfortable

i would avoid giving yourself internal exams at all costs.  leave that one to the dr. or nurse.

Oh and I noticed that it kind of is tucked toward my back (does that make sense) and no ladies I do not enjoy digging up there, but since I have to put in my progesterone suppositories I am forced to at least notice.  For a while I was having my DH do it because I was overanalyzing things too much and stressing myself out.  Anyways, from everything I have read (and confirmed by the responses in this post) I don't think there is one standard answer.  There is so much variation in cervical position that it is really pointless to try to analyze it too much.

I haven't felt myself up in awhile.  I was just curious, because it's not addressed in pregnancy books and because the internet information is scattered.  I've seen spongy and soft but thick, firm, low, high.  The only uniform thing is closed.  

More of what I was reading said soft, closed and high.  But I have seen low as well.

I was wondering this too when I noticed soon after my BFP that it was really low, firm, and tender. I googled around and like you found conflicting info. A few days later it was high and softer... I decided to just stop checking and not worry about it.

it should definitely be closed & high.  like, out of your reach high.  i know nothing of texture.
