i've been asked my opinion on shower games at my shower coming up. have you guys done any games that were fun/interesting/not totally cheesy? any suggestions would be a help. thanks!
If your group is at all pop-culture savvy, I think playing the "celebrity baby" trivia game is fun. You can match the baby name to the parents... or if you're REALLY good, you can go for pictures.
"For a long time there were only your footprints & laughter in our dreams & even from such small things, we knew we could not wait to love you forever."
I threw a baby shower for a friend, and we played baby catch phrase. I bought a pack of notecards (the multi color pack works best so you can tell when you have gone through the whole stack), and I wrote a baby related word on each card. Then, we played catch phrase rules and passed the stack of cards around the circle. If they got their team to guess the word, the took the card, and if they passed, they moved it to the back of the stack. I was the time keeper, and they had 1 minute per round. I also marked some of the cards with a sticker, and if the ladies guessed the word on that card, the mommy to be got a small prize. Then, the winning team each got a small prize as well. It was really fun, and the guests all really enjoyed it.
When I threw a baby shower for a friend of mine a little over a year ago, I had everyone divide into groups and design plain onesies. I provided the onesie, hot irons, decals, letters, etc. They had a great time doing this, we put them on display, and later she got to take them home. I doubt baby ever wore them, but it was fun just the same.

I won't even lie to you, my friends who are planning my shower right now are setting up a game of quarters/beer pong, whoever wins has to babysit at my beckon call. I'm also having a unisex shower, so it's going to be really game orientated. Since we have a pretty good idea of the sex & the names I've chosen, we can't do those games. But we are having a bet on when I give birth, if my football club (soccer) wins that weekend and who the godparents are going to be.
I never made it my second shower and my first shower was a sit-down tea and we didn't play any games.
A fun game I played at a shower was: You get a roll of yarn (or ribbon, as long as you have a LOT) and everybody has to cut off a piece of yarn from the roll that measures in estimate the distance around the future mom's belly! It was so cute, and funny how big or small some people guessed!

I went to a shower and they had a game where there was a medium size bowl filled with dried white rice mixed with small metal safety pins. You had to search through the rice without looking and find the safety pins. It sounds easy until you try it. The person who found the most won.
Ok, this may be difficult to explain, but I'll try... it is such a fun game. Pass out little stacks of scrap paper to each person. The packets should have as many pages as people playing the game (10 people playing, 10 packets with 10 pieces of scrap paper). Everybody writes down the name of a children's book but doesn't tell anyone. After that is done, pass the packets clockwise to the next person. Everyone then looks at the name of the book, then flips to the next page and draws a pic of the name of the book. The packets are passed around the group, with people guessing the book name from the drawing and then drawing the written guess and so on. It's kinda like the game telephone, but with pictures. When the packets get back to the original person, it's fun to see if any of the final titles are actually the original ones. Hope I explained it enough...it really is fun, and I am not one for shower games.
I threw a unisex shower, and because guys are really not that interested in watching someone open presents, the game was played while the presents were being opened. There were small (and inexpensive) baby items in individual brown lunch bags stapled shut and numbered. Bags were passed around the room (tossed in this case), and people got to feel the bags and guess what was inside. They wrote down their guesses and the people who guessed the most correctly won a little prize. Some of the items that were challenging...wall outlet covers, baby nail clippers, q-tips. Other good items, rattle, washcloth, pacifier, bottlebrush. Mom-to-be gets to open the lunchbags (and keep the gifts) as people compare with their answers.

Diaper derby relay race. We had two plastic dolls, two stacks of diapers, two packages of wipes, and two small baby powders. There were two groups of people. They had to change the diaper, including wiping and powdering, re-diaper, and pass the baby to the next in line. The group who was done first got the prizes. This was really funny with all of the guys doing it.

I threw a co-ed shower for my sister 5 years ago. The best game was for the men - who can drink beer from a baby bottle the fastest. And some young girls got in there. We had a line of 14 competing. If I have a co-ed shower, I'm definitely doing that one.
I like celebrity baby names, as well as animal baby names (who knew it would be so hard?!). I'm throwing a shower for SIL and planning to fill a diaper bag, pass it around and have the guests try to remember what's in it. I think anything that takes the focus off the guest of honor while she's opening gifts is nice.
