My favorite boy name for quite some time now is Noah but DH and I are not religious. I'm wondering if your first though about Noah is the Arc and if its like sacrilegious or something to use it..?
One of my best friends just named her son Noah and she is not religious at all. I'm religious, but the fact that she isn't and still named her son Noah never even crossed my mind!

I think it is fine if your not religious as well. Think about all the super popular Biblical names used...Jacob, Joshuah, Jonathan, Matthew, Michael, Mark, Luke, Daniel, David, Elijah, Andrew, Joseph, James, Eli, Nathan...I mean, the list is very long, and I am willing to bet not all of those parents are religious, and to my knowledge, no one has been struck by lightning yet:)
I love the name Noah. I'm a Christian and it definitely reminds me of Noah's Arc, but that isn't a bad thing. I don't think it's sacrilegious at all, but?would probably just assume you were Jewish or a Christian since it's not mainstream like most of the new testament names are (matthew, john, etc..)
My DH is a Noah and I LOVE his name. It is one of things that attracted me to him. It is really strong and unique name. It suits him very well. Most people choose biblical names. You don't have to be religious to choose a name from the bible.

I do think if it as a bit biblical sounding... for some reason old testament names seem to get the biblical label, whereas new testament names, like Luke or Matthew or John don't as much.... anyway, I think it's OK.
Firstly I LOVE the name Noah, it's definitely on my list.
Secondly I agree that it's mainstream religious. Not quite as mainstream as Matthew, Mark, Luke and John but getting close.
There's a whole heap of names that are common place in the modern worls and also make an appearance in the bible so I don't see it as a big deal. It doesn't scream biblical to me any more than Adam, Aaron, Daniel, Christopher, Hannah, Rebecca, Ruth etc etc?
Re: Your opinion about the name Noah?
Noah is NMS, but I think it's more of a "mainstream" Bible name.
It doesn't scream "religious" to me like Jedediah or Ezekiel, etc. (I wouldn't use a name like that if you're not religious, for example).
But, since Noah is pretty mainstream, I think it's fine to use if you're not particularly religious. I don't think it's sacreligious at all.
This.
