Success after IF

How many hours would you spend in the car when pregnant?

We booked a while ago a beach trip.  It's about a 6 1/2 hour drive, we thought it was more like 5 hours.  My OB said not to drive more than 5-6 hours in a day (we are moving and it's a 11 hour drive, we have to make it in 2 days she said).  Would you still go?  It's Memorial Weekend, we are leaving Friday morning and coming back Monday.  With stops every 1 1/2 - 2 hours, it'll make it more like an 8 hour drive total probably.  WWYD?

You'll need to stop often to walk around but if the OB says it's okay, then I'd go.  Don't go against her advice.  I could be wrong but can't prolonged sitting cause clots?  I could be wrong and confused :)

I took a 2.5 hour ride 22 weeks pregnant and it was a long drive.  I had to keep stopping to pee.

I'll have to call Monday and ask.  We originally thought we were in the time frame.  I will not go against her advice.  I don't know if she was talking about us moving which I'll bet at 25 weeks then or over all no more than 5-6 hours a day.
  • We drove to the beach three weeks ago when I was 25 weeks pg with twins. I think it ended up taking us about 6-6.5 hours with three stops for me and our toddler. My OB didn't give us a total max we could drive, but just said to walk around every two hours because you are at higher risk for blood clots when pg as pp said. Since 6.5 isn't that much more than 6 I would definitely call and ask. I definitely knew when I needed to get out and walk around, but I wasn't terribly uncomfortable for the most part.

  • I would probably go, but stop every 2 hours or so to walk around.

  • We drove from Phoenix to Vegas, which is about 4-5 hours and I was 30 weeks pg. It wasn't so bad, but after the ride, my back was hurting. I would make sure you have pillows on hand in case you need them. I see no reason why you shouldn't go. Congrats on the move!
  • We're driving 12 hours, next weekend (I'll be 18 wks). The doctor said it was fine as long as I took frequent stops (every 2 hours). She also suggested that I take a baby aspirin when we started the driving, to help thin my blood a bit to avoid a blood clot. HTH

  • I would go.  My OB warned me of the same thing.  She said if we stop for me to walk around every 1-2 hrs I should be fine.  Also, she suggested wearing ted-hose (support hose) to help with circulation.

  • My job is about 70% driving, so i spend a good 6 hours/5 days a week in the car.  It is fine.  Just stop and keep youself busy....sing, dance, walk...whatever.
