raw milk?

We went to the meeting for our work share at the CSA near us. While there we tried raw milk and were told about a 'cow share' at another local farm. It is $100 for a cow share per year, then $8 per gallon of milk. They also have cream, but I didn't get a price for it. We typically go through a gallon of milk every 1-1 1/2 weeks.

What do you guys think? It tasted good, and I am sure it is healthier, but is it worth it? Would you do it?

Re: raw milk?

  • I'm actually going to go the raw milk route pretty soon. There is a guy close to me that does shares. Its like, $54/year for the share and then the milk is $6/gallon. I think its worth it. I don't drink much milk, but DS and DD drink it like its going out of style.

I've really read that milk is much more digestable when the fats haven't been all broken down and such by the homogenization process. My girlfriend ONLY does raw milk. She swears by it.

I'd go for it. hahah, I mean, I'm going to, so you should, too! haha!

  • I just realized I should have milked my cow when I was out of store bought milk and making corn bread.  I always forget that I have a milk cow and can use her milk.  I'm lactose intolorant so we use very little milk, but I have milked our cow and sometimes DH buys it at the store (the cow doesn't like him he can't milk her.).  I usually let the calfs have all the milk but this year my poor cow is over producing.  I do think that $100 a year and $8 a gallon is a bit high for milk but I do agree that it's much better milk.
