Preemies

born at 33-34 weeks?

Were anybody's babies born at either 33 or 34 weeks?

Did they have to spend a lot of time in the NICU?

How much did the baby weigh?

Thanks so much for helping me out! I have some Blood Pressure issues and was in the hospital getting monitored and am not super concerned, as I think I am doing well on bedrest,  but just wanted to hear your experiences...you never know. Thanks so muchSmile

Re: born at 33-34 weeks?

  • Every baby is different. I had my 2nd at 30 weeks, and she was only in the NICU for 30 days. I think at 34 weeks, if there were no complications at all, their stay would be very short, or in some cases not at all. As long as they are able to maintain their body temp, take their feedings by bottle, etc.

  • I had steroid injections at 28 weeks. My twins were born at 33 weeks and were in the NICU for 4 weeks. They were healthy though, just working on the suck, swallow, breathe combo. Learning to maintain their temperatures, eat well, and maintain their oxygen levels. They were considered "feeders and growers"

  • My DD was born at 34 weeks.  I did receive the steroid injections at 24 weeks though.  She was 5lbs10oz and stayed in the NICU for 8 days.  She needed iv antibiotics for 1 week because of pPROM and went under the bili lights for 2 days.

  • We were at 34w6d, started steroid shots at 33w6d I think.  She was 4lbs8.5oz, and was in the NICU for 2 weeks.
  • My son was born at 34 weeks 1 day.  He was 5lbs 9oz, and stayed in the NICU for 7 days.  He had the same issues as the PP's mentioned.  Feeding and temp regulation.  He was also pretty jaundiced too, so that was another factor.  He was a good size for 34 weeks from what I was told though...I had gestational diabetes.
  • my lo was born @ 33 weeks. 10 days in the hospital. weighed 3 lbs 11oz

  • My LO was born at 34 weeks 3 days weighed 5 lb 10 oz..She was in the NICU for 8 days....Very healthy baby she didnt need  o2 at birth nothing. She had jaundice. SHe was under the lights for 4 days. She also had a IV in for 6 days but it was hep blocked for 4.

Good luck...Having a NICU baby is very stressful because the seperation is awful! But you learn that they are in good hands and everything will work out...

  • I had DS at 32 weeks and he was 3lbs. 11oz.  He was basically a "feeder/grower" and spent 27 days in the NICU doing just that - feeding and growing.  He had some reflux issues, but aside from that, he really didn't have any problems.  He was caught up in weight by 4 months.

  • Ds was born at 34 weeks. My water broke on it's own at 5am. Ds was 5 lbs 12 oz. He spent 7 days in the nicu. It was hard but the nurses were greaat and I could be there anytime except during shift change
  • My DS was born at 34 weeks 1 day and was an identical twin. His twin died at 32 weeks. I got steroid shots at 32 weeks and then delivered him at 34. He was 6 lbs 7 oz and was in the NICU for 6 days for observation but he had no feeding tubes, oxygen, jaundice, or any other complications at all.

  • 34 weeks, 4 days.  4lbs, 6 oz, 19.5 inches.  9 & 9 apgars.  13 days in NICU for jaundice/being a preemie.
3/22/09 - Lily Grace, born at 33 weeks, 2 days
    9/12/14 - M/C @ 7 weeks, 1 day (ectopic)

  • DD was born at 34 weeks exactly.  The doctors had no idea why she came early, there were no complications or anything during my entire pregnancy, my water just broke.  She was in the NICU for 6 days.  She was breathing on her own without assistance as soon as she was born and drank immediately from a bottle.  She was basically there to eat and grow a little bit.  She did end up with a little bit of jaundice but was only on a biliblanket for about a day and a half.  She weighed 5 lbs, 2.5 oz.
  • 34 weeks on the dot...I had several rounds of steriods since we knew ahead of time...she weighed 5 lbs 6 oz and breathed on her own and had no eating issues...she would have gone home after 5 days if there wasn't an issue with her blood count...

    GL!
