Solids Schedule

What did your schedule look like when you started solids?  Right now we're feeding on demand with cereal being served every night at 7pm.  We're getting ready to start veggies next week so I think I should move cereal to the morning and do veggies at 7pm instead.  Does that sound right?  Also, do you

BF around the same time as you serve solids?  If so, do you BF before or after offering the solids?

Here is what our schedule looks like currently, although the BF times vary:

8:30 wake up

9:00 - BF

10:30 - 12:30 - morning nap

1:00 - BF

4:00 - BF, then down for afternoon nap until 6:00pm

7:00 - cereal

8-9 usually she wants to BF at some point

9:30 - BF one last time and down to bed.

Would you do BF AND cereal at the 9:00am feeding or do cereal a little later?  I plan on asking the pedi at her 6-month appointment but that's not for another few weeks.

Re: Solids Schedule

  • We've had DS on solids for just around a month now.  We started out with rice cereal for 2 weeks (we switched to oatmeal about 1/2 way through) and gave it for breakfast after I BF him.  After those 2 weeks we started adding purees into the cereal, so far we've done applesauce, pears, bananas, peaches.  I'm going to go through all of the Stage 1 foods first and then start adding a 2nd meal in at night...probably between 6 and 7 depending on when he naps.  So our day usually looks like this:

    9 Wake up, BF

    9:30 Cereal/food

    10:30-12 Nap

Then after that he eats on demand, but it's usually every 3 hours and he almost always takes a nap between feedings.  So he takes about 4 naps a day, but they are rarely ever much more than an hour.

After I BF him in the morning we play for maybe 15-20 minutes and then do cereal.  Sometimes I do it right after I feed him and he still is just as interested in eating and still eats the same amount.  I haven't found it to make much of a difference.  I can't wait much longer than I do because he starts to get grumpy before too long, so earlier is better for us.

  • We started veggies this week and I usually give them to her around 7 at her last feeding before bedtime. ?I moved the cereal to the morning/early afternoon feeding. ?I usually feed her after I've given her the solids. ?Although with cereal she's not a big fan so I've found it easier to pump and give her the bottle throughout the feeding.?
  • I BF Macy in the morning when she wakes up, then usually within 1/2 hour feed her solids.  We started out with just oatmeal cereal in AM, but moved it to PM around 5.5 months because she stopped sleeping through night.  Now we are on 2 meals a day (per pedi at 6 month check up).  So, I'm doing fruit and oatmeal in AM about 1/2 hour after BF and then she BF on demand throughout day, then when DH and I eat dinner 5:30-6:30ish, we feed her dinner.  She gets oatmeal cereal mixed with veggies.  She still BFs before bed.

  • Can I just say how jealous I am

    Here is our schedule:

    7 am-BF

9 am-BF to sleep (try to lay him down, wakes up)

9:30 rock him to sleep (try to lay him down he wakes up)

    (9:30-11= fussy baby)

11-BF to sleep (finally stays asleep on the sofa or swing)

repeat bFing every 2 hours until  7:30 pm- nap on sofa

up every 2 hours until 7am when we "get up"

  • per my pediatrician we did 1 meal a day up until 6 months ( we started at 4) moved up to 2 meals a day until 9 months and then 3 meals a day after that
