DS has diahrea caused by an antibiotic and I am wondering if I need to do a BRAT diet or if he can eat what ever since he isn't really sick (has and ear infection).
I don't think you need to stick with BRAT if he feels like eating, although any foods that are binding for him might help. Just make sure he stays hydrated.
Also, products like Culturelle help R a lot when she's on antibiotics.
DS used to have this problem ALOT. He ate lots of yogurt and toast to help stop some of it. He also drank Pedialyte like it was going out of style. GL!
I would just stay away from foods that can naturally cause stomach upset/diarrhea. Like greasy/spicey foods, dairy with the exception of yogurt & you can add them all back in once the diarrhea subsides.
Yogurt - get the kind with the live active cultures. I usually get the organic but I don't know if it matters. If you can, get him to eat at least one a day. It'll clear up almost any diarrhea in a day or two including/especially the kind caused by antibiotics. It was the only thing that worked with DD#1 when she was on them when she was little. She got the worst diaper rash from the diarrhea too before we found out about the yogurt trick.
