~Thiswillbe~

Hey, I was just reading you have PCOS below. Have you started metformin? I found this helped with my egg quality. I also was taking wheatgrass before and during my IVF cycle. I had 17 eggs retrieved and 16 were mature, I am thanking the metformin and wheatgrass.

I am just throwing thoughts out there. I have been through lots of IUI's, surgery, IVF and lots of meds.

  • Hey! ::waves:: I know you-- I remember you from poking around on TTTC and SAIF. Congrats, BTW!!

Yeah, I'm on met, 1500 mg/day. (I was on it when I was first diagnosed, but went off it in 2006 because I was in Sudan for a month and the met + 110 degree heat + living in a tent just wasn't doing it for me.) I went back on it in Feb of this year-- not sure if it is helping yet or not. We didn't really wait for it to regulate my cycles or anything before we started in on the clomid/trigger/IUI thing.

I like the thought that it might help with maturation of my eggs-- my first (clomid) cycle I didn't get any follies over 17, and none of them were really growing at the pace they should have been. We went ahead and triggered and did the IUI anyway, but it was a BFN.

I might have to look into the wheatgrass thing. Sounds like nasty stuff, but hey, whatever works!!

  • I had no luck with Clomid and that stuff sucks! The s/e are horrible for the little it does. I respond really well to gonal-f, it's way more expensive, but definitely gives you lots of follies with little s/e.

The wheatgrass isn't bad. I took the pill form and took 14 pills a day. It really wasn't that bad. The drink I would imagine would be nasty.

Hopefully the metformin will give you the extra boost you need. I know it took several months before I saw benefits from it.

I now have to take it my entire pregnancy=( I really hate it.

Butting in!  Congratulations on your twins!  Twins are great!

  • Oooh, there's a pill form of wheatgrass? I could do that! I was picturing the green foamy drink form, which kinda makes me gag just thinking about it.

How many clomid cycles did you do before moving on to injectables? I am scared of needles (yeah, the perfect IF patient), but I don't want us to spin our wheels too long if clomid ends up not being our answer (it's $2k/month for the sperm, IUI, and monitoring alone-- so I wouldn't mind more expensive meds if it means fewer cycles!).

Are you on the XR form of met or the regular kind? I am on the regular kind and have heard XR is much better, s/e-wise. Unfortunately, my RE doesn't want to switch me right now.

  • Thanks:) I couldn't be happier!

I am just worried about Baby B, she just needs to catch-up to her sister!

Twin boys are adorable, I had names ready to go for both sexes:)

Our baby A was always so much smaller than his brother. Even at birth they weighed 4.14 and 6.9.  Thankfully neither had to go to the NICU. But wow, Baby A was small (4.6 when we brought him home!)

And still 3 years later he is much smaller than his brother (5lb difference which puts one in the 7th% and the other in the 65th%!) But even though he is little, he is scrappy and is far more agile than his brother!

     Good luck!

  • Yes, they do. It's really not that bad. I just googled for the best price. I think I got like 500 pills for $30, but of course I can't find the website I bought them at. I really think it helped a ton.

I did 6 rounds of clomid, I did 4 with TI, then 2 with trigger and IUI. Then I had lap surgery. I then moved on to injectables with Gonal-f with IUI (4 rounds of this). I took a long break and then did IVF and you can see it was my winning cycle. Please don't let that discourage you, my RE thinks something else was going on too, but not sure. He doesn't think my H's boys were doing their thing. We did ICSI on all my eggs.

I was the biggest wuss when it came to needles. The first time I had to do a shot I cried for 2 hours while my H just stood their with the needle. It was a process every time. The gonal pens are so easy and if you can do the trigger you will have no issue with the pen. My H got home late one night so I had to do it myself. I didn't think I could do it. I just went for it and it was easy. By the time I got to IVF and had to do 3 shots in one night it was no big deal. I had the biggest fear of needles.

I am on the XR, from just talking to the ladies on TTTC and SAIF it does sound like the s/e are much better, but don't get me wrong they still suck.

  • Thanks 2brides, were they fraternal or identical? Since my girls are identical we have to make sure they are sharing the placenta. We are at risk for TTTS.
