We have Amber Skye picked for our girls name (we find out tuesday what we're having) and my family keeps teasing that its a stripper name : /

We do have a second girls name picked but I was just looking for some feed back if stripper pops in your mind too

I dont think so! It sounds more like a hippie name to me (which, in my opinion is a compliment, my #2 name for a girl is Aradia Willow, Ultra hippie!)

Maybe Amber a bit (of maybe it's just because I have a really negative conotation with the name - ugh!)...but not really Skye. I think MN like Diamond, Jade, Lacey, etc. sound waaaaay more "stripper-esque". I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks that what I was going for! Skye is actually part of my first name so I was surprised my parents said stripper!

It's not my favorite, to be honest. I LOVE hippie names, but I don't like this. Mostly because Amber was the name of two girls in my high school who were basically strippers. One even had TWO kids by the time she dropped out of HS junior year. The other had a baby and actually managed to graduate but barely. So, yeah, I associate the name with slutty women.

Incidentally, DH loves the name Amber and suggested it. I shot it down, but now we're tossing around the name Ember. I know it's not extremely different, but it's enough so that I'm not grossed out by it.

I think the fact that Amber is an adjective and Skye is a noun is my problem with it and makes it sounds fake, Like Blu Skye or Starry Skye, etc. I do like Skye as a mn, my friend named her baby Samantha Skye and I really liked that.

I like it. One of our girl names is Sophia Sky. I did think of having an E on the end of Sky but some people on here had some good points for ditching the E and I think they were right.

I really like Skye - especially because it's part of your name... But I do think the combo is sort of trashy.. Nearly every Amber I've ever met is trashy... Stripper is not my first thought, but I might look for a different first name...

I think both Amber and Skye on their own are kind of trashy/stripperish but could work, the two of them together defeinitely crosses the stripper line though.

I don't think Amber is a stripper name, and I like it. (And I'm conservative.) I think it's the Skye that I don't like. However, since you already had this name picked out and you love it, I would go with it. I hardly ever need to say my kids' middle names. I'm sure half or most of my friends and family don't even remember what their middle names are.

Sorry but I agree - sounds very stripper/low rent to me. And yes, Amber is the most commonly used name for lower class white girls which is why people are getting that association.

Yes, Amber is incredibly trashy/stripper sounding, especially with Skye (the E pushes Sky over the edge from hippy to white trash, too).

What's your 2nd choice?
