NBR: Annoying bride

So I was invited to a wedding shower and instead of a registry it said "Monetary Shower" right on the invite! I was annoyed so I decided not to go but I sent a gift with my MIL because she was going. Then my MIL returns with the thank you card from the bride. The cards were handed out at the shower and were not personalized AT ALL. She didn't even hand write it....she printed some generic message on her computer and pasted it into the card. What a joke! I guess she probably wouldn't have had a personal thank you for everyone since she only received cash but the LEAST she could have done was hand write the stupid thank you. Where do people get the nerve?!?!?

A former boss of mine did something similar, but in a classier way.  There is a website where people can "gift" money to help fund the wedding/honeymoon.  I don't know if she could see how much each person gifted, but she could see who... and handwrote thank you notes to each one of us. 

This was her second marriage after being divorced 10 years prior so she really didn't need gifts as much as money.  They actually used the money to help pay for plane tickets so her FI's family could come from Norway for the wedding.

We did a honeymoon registry along with a regular registry. We're both in our 30's and lived on our own for a long time before that so we didn't need a lot of things. We made it kind of fun where someone could buy us "drinks" for $25 or a "dinner" for $50. But I definitely sent a personal thank-you to anyone that gave us a monetary gift either from the website or a check. Any gift was definitely appreciated.
