Highlights?

I've yet to see an OB (I'm still being seen by my IVF clinic), but I'd like to know if it's ok to highlight my hair? I've heard it's ok as long as the room is ventilated, but I've also heard its not acceptable in any case because it seeps into the scalp? My one and only concern: IS IT 100% SAFE?

They say it is ok to do but I chose not to do it while I was pg, totally a personal choice.

First of all, congrats!! I am glad you posted this question as I too have been curious as to whether or not I should touch up my highlights (I am 14 weeks with twins). I just looked at my "Pregnancy Dos and Don'ts"(Elisabeth Aaron, M.D.) book and in reference to hair dyes it reads:

"...Low level of hair dyes have been found to be absorbed into the skin and are then excreted into the urine. These low levels have not been associated with any adverse fetal outcomes. Also, there have been no reported negative outcomes from women who have had their hair dyed during pregnancy...If you choose to dye your hair while pregnant, consider using a technique that involves the shortest possible time of exposure to the chemicals used and waiting until after the first trimester."

My OB said it was fine.  My hair stylist pointed out that the chemicals they use these days are a lot safer than ones they used to, and that especially with highlights it's not rubbed into the scalp so much. 

I think the main thing I read was that the smells can affect you more in your first trimester, or that your hormones being out of whack can affect the results (but think that's more for perms), and that's why some women wait until the 2nd trimester.

I've read and heard that highlighting is safe, but all over color is not necessarily safe in the 1st trimester.

I waited until the 2nd trimester and then I highlighted my hair.
