DD has had a cold / respiratory illness about every 3-4 weeks since she was about 3 mo.
She does not go to daycare. Either DH or my parents watch her, depending on the day.
We do take her out in public regularly: restaurants, stores, church, etc.
I just worry because it seems like she's sick all the time.
The last one was bad enough that she got an inhaler because she was struggling to breathe. The one she has now isn't as bad, in that sense, but she's got a bad cough that wakes her up several times a night. And I think she has a sore throat, although it's hard to tell when they can't talk yet.
She never has a fever. Just cold-type symptoms. But she's miserable.
I don't know. Is this normal? or does it seem like a lot to you too?
Re: Anyone else's DC get a lot of colds?
I felt like my son had a cold, the sniffles, a little cough, or something along those lines almost CONSTANTLY until he was about 15 months old. I never really stopped to think whether it was normal or not, we just had to deal with it all the time. I finally started running the vaporizer in his room every single night to help him deal with it. I kept a thermometer that showed the humidity level in his room so I would know if it was too dry or moist enough to run it. It has really seemed to help.
Unfortunately, I think that first year of life is just a lot about their little bodies learning to co-exist with the outside world. There are germs and allergens everywhere. I would be willing to bet that your DD is not nearly so cold-prone after her first year.

The Chronicles of Justin and Tyler
DD has been sick more than healthy since September. I think some babies are just more susceptible to it than others. DD has had at least ten colds, probably more like 15. We've had seven ill appts. on top of regular appts. It is crazy.
I second the humidity gauge through a thermometer. Monitoring the humidity in her room and using a cool mist humidifier ALL the time has helped a lot. Plus now that it's spring she is sick less.
