Hi, there!
Regarding your post about Leah's current progress, I just wanted to say how great that is that Leah is doing well with sippy cups and cow's milk! I'm glad the transition went well for both her and you! Which sippy cup does she prefer? We are still working with Madelyn each day with the Nuby soft spout sippy. Today she held in with both of her hands, tipped it to her mouth, and just kept the spout in her mouth for a second, but didn't try to drink.... (still FF). I hope this is progress in the right direction! If you have any advice/tips for transitioning from the bottle to a sippy, I would greatly appreciate it!
TIA!
Also, has Leah transitioned to a convertible car seat yet? The reason why I ask is I know that Leah and Madelyn are both petite and trying to put on weight... Madelyn is still in her infant Snugride seat, and seems to be comfy. (I think she is around 15.5 lbs... weight check next week.) If you have transitioned DD, would you recommend your convertible seat for Madelyn since she is small like Leah?
Sorry so long - thanks for reading!
Re: **teacherjess**
:::butting in::: Ditto the straw cup. Logan has never used a regular sippy. My mom taught him how to drink out of a straw at 6m so all we use are straw cups.
Logan was about the same weight as Maggie when we moved him into his convertible.
HTH!
Hey Amber!
I was actually going to post to you because I saw your update that Madelyn wasn't interested in sippy cups. We struggled with it for a week or so before she caught on. We used the Nuby cup, too, and also bought a straw cup. She liked chewing on the straw but didn't drink much.
What we had been doing was giving her water in it, and she'd grab it, tip it, but wouldn't do much with it, like Madelyn. Then her doctor said that for weight gain, the only liquid she should take in was milk, so we started whole milk with Pediasure mixed in. Pediasure smells like a milkshake and she loved the taste, so once we put that in the sippy, she started to get the idea of sucking it out. It took a few days and a lot of messy outfits before she figured out how hard to suck to get the right amount, but once she got that, she was fine. So maybe try some Pediasure in a cup and see if that encourages her to actually suck? Also, Nubys have the valve, and if you cut the tip of the sippy nipple valve, or whatever it's called, a little bit, it'd be easier for her to suck the liquid out without pulling so hard, which might help. We did that for Leah's first sippy.
For the carseat, we swapped her out around 10.5 months when she started to really hate the infant seat. She could have stayed in it a lot longer because she was only about 15 lbs. at that time, but she was getting really fussy and we were no longer using it to move her in and out, so we just switched. We got the Britax Roundabout and it's perfect for her. She loves it and it angles her so she can look out the window and keep herself occupied. She sleeps in it really well, too. So I'd recommend that. The Marathon has a higher weight/height limit, but she is so small that it will be a LONG time before she outgrows the Roundabout!
Good luck with this. I hope Madelyn's upcoming appointment goes well and you are able to transition to whole milk soon (the budget savings are huge!). We are hoping Leah has hit 16.7 at her appt. tomorrow because if not, we'll have to use more Pediasure. That may be what they recommend for Madelyn, too. They also suggested mixing in a packet of Carnation instant breakfast to her milk each day to bump up calories, so you could ask about that, too, if they don't bring it up.
I hope you guys are doing well winding down the school year. I am SO ready to be done!
