What's the most normal way to spell this name?

Rowan?  Rowen?

My dh and I disagree on this, and the baby name sites don't really give much help.

Re: What's the most normal way to spell this name?

  • For some reason, I see "Rowan" as a girl's name and "Rowen" as a boy's. ?I have no idea why!?

  • I always thought it was Rowan.

I think with an "a".  Are you considering it?

  • I believe it to be Rowan.  I've never seen Rowen.

  • In my experience, the most common way to spell it is RowAn. It is used for both male and females.

It hadn't even crossed my mind until today that it could be a girl's name, and I did sort of see this trend on some of the baby name sites.

I was thinking Rowan, and my husband thought Rowen because it would just be like Owen with an R.

We are considering this name.  I don't like anything he has come up with, and he doesn't like my top name.  I have been saying Rowan for awhile, but then he was liking Owen, and for some reason last night he changed his mind to Rowan.  It's a mess! Smile

  • Oh, and can I just say that the baby name websites stink!  They all say something different, and some of them are so hard to navigate/use.

I love the name Rowan.  It's on our list for a boy.  I think it's a very masculine sounding name so I don't understand using it for a girl.

Josey, not sure if this is of any help or not, but the SSA 2008 name list shows "Rowan" as # 340 for a boy and #  469 for a girl. There is no incidence of the name Rowen.

  • I really like the name, too.  I wasn't too sure about having both kids start with an R, but when we don't agree on anything else, and if we both really like the name, I guess it doesn't matter.

I have two E babies so I don't think having two kids with R names is a big deal.  If we have any more kids though I'm going to try to steer clear of any more E names.

Happy I could be of some help Josey! :)
