Ever used a pull string pinata?

Rory has been talking about pinatas for months now after seeing one on something on tv.  So I was thinking it would be fun to have one at her birthday party, but there is no way I'm letting under 5 year olds swing a bat at one.  No way.

Do those pull string ones really work?  Do you let them all pull the strings at once or do you take turns?

Re: Ever used a pull string pinata?

  • We got one for DS's first birthday party. There were kids up to the age of 7 there and it worked out just fine. We had people hold it as opposed to hanging it up somewhere so we had the ability to control when strings got pulled (by raising and lowering it).

For the little kids, we handed them a string and told them to pull. The older kids were all really well behaved and pulled one at a time. We told them if more than one got pulled at a time, it would break and not open.

  • They had one at my nephew's 3rd birthday party, and it worked really well. ?I think they just made sure everyone had ahold of a string, and let them pull at the same time.

  • They work very well.  There is a "trap door" and a certain string is attached to it so when that string is pulled the trap door opens and all the candy comes out.  It is nicer than the regular ones because the candy doesn't fly all over the place (not to mention no injuries from bats!).  I actually made my DS's first one (it was a number one and I wanted certain colors).  The second one was a race car (bought it).  I would have the kids pull one string at a time.
