We're going to be moving across the state in the next month or so. I'm overwhelmed just thinking about it, but I really need to start getting organized. Are there any good websites with checklists of stuff I need to do (since I know I will forget little things) or do you have any good tips? TIA!
Re: Has anyone moved recently? (Long-distance or not)
We have many times! My best advice is to shop around when looking for a rental moving truck. Look at what the prices include & compare to other companies. Also, look for the closest truck drop off location to where you are moving (if you are driving the truck yourselves). Lots of these places charge per mile. Some places will include so many blankets for furniture, a lift, etc, just look at the details. We found the best deal through Penske. (moved from Milwaukee, WI to western MN).
You can also get moving boxes online at a reasonable price. Just search "moving boxes" & compare their packages. They also will sell bubble wrap or "peanuts". Get more bubble wrap than you think you will need. It's good for china, dishes, pictures, lamps, mirrors, etc.
If you have a ton of breakables like an entertainment center, glass coffee table, etc I might look into hiring a moving company. They are liable if anything breaks, but I *think* that they have to pack for you as well. We were going to do that, but it does cost more, but it can also be worth it if you have lots of breakable items or are not able to lift large furniture, etc. I think we might actually do that if we have to move again!!! lol
GL! Packing stinks! But I would do one room at a time & devote one whole day to a room when packing. Then I would leave about 2 days at the end for cleaning/last minute packing.
