questioning about monitoring while on clomid

dh and i are in the very early stages of working with a specialist to help get me pregnant.  we are in the testing phase right now, but my doctor did mention clomid as being a possible first step if everything is ok on the tests.  my question is:  when you mention being monitored while on clomid, does that mean frequent ultrasounds?  bloodwork?  also, how can they tell if the clomid has negative effects on your lining?

i'm just trying to get educated on this before i start taking anything.  of course, i will be going over all of this with my doctor should we need to!

thank you for any advice!

Re: questioning about monitoring while on clomid

  • I start my first round of Clomid tonight. Today (CD3) I had blood work and an ultrasound. I go back on CD 10 to check my progress via another ultrasound.  I believe thats the standard monitoring procedure.  They can tell about the lining during the ultrasound.

  • I've only done two rounds but they go:

CD2/3 or 4 - u/s for cysts, bw to check fsh

cd10/11/12 - u/s to measure follicle growth and lining...

I'm glad I did the monitoring - the low dose clomid gives me follies every time but thins my lining (other than that no other side effects so I am really bummed that I need to move to another drug) :(

Are these internal or external ultrasounds?

  • yep... ditto pp.    you have bloodwork and an ultrasound done on CD3, and then again around CD10 and every day or few days after that to monitor your follicle development and measure your uterine lining.    good luck!

Internal.  I didn't know that and was very unpleasantly surprised at my CD3 appt :(

My RE does monitoring mainly by b/w. ?I had an u/s at one appt just to see if the Clomid was thinning out my lining. When he concluded it wasn't he now doesn't have me come in for an u/s unless my E2 levels from my b/w come back too high (indicating I might be releasing too many eggs). ?Luckily, that has only happened once. ?I start getting my E2 and LH taken around day 10 and then keep going every other day until I O. Fun stuff! ?GL to you!
