Multiples

tried it and failed

We tried to make the last feeding at 9pm and failed.  We kept the babies up from 6-9 even though they were sooo tired.  We fed them at 9pm and put them to bed and they slept really well until 1.  They woke up to be fed and Maggie went down a little bit after the feed but my DS stayed up until 4am.  I was so pissed.  I know his reflux was probably bothering him but it was out of control.  He screamed and cried bloody murder.  I rocked him, changed him, nursed him, swaddled him.. nothing worked.  He eventually cried himself to sleep at 4 and then Maggie woke up at 5 to be fed.  Ugh I really dont know what I am doing wrong..  right now they are both sleeping after a 730 feed.

Re: tried it and failed

  • Hey sweets - I personally wouldn't try to keep them up so late. I learned with my boys that they need an earlier bedtime (7ish), and they actually sleep better at night. It will take a little while for your kiddos to adjust to a "bedtime", but this is just what I learned from our own personal experience.

All I can say otherwise, is that I promise it gets better :)?

  • I wouldn't have kept them up either.  That may have made them overtired which is never good.  Are you still doing the every 3 hours during the day?  I would do your "normal" routine at 6 if that is feeding and then activity or back to sleep or whatever then wake them at 9 (give or take if they don't wake up themselves first) and then try putting them down for the night.  That's what we do and they will sleep from whenever we put them down for 4-5 hours.  HTH and IM/email me if you want to talk more.  I'm online but invisible!  :-D

  • Like PPs, I wouldn't be keeping them up. It's much harder to put an overtired baby to sleep than a tired baby. If they fall asleep after the 7:30 feeding then keep going with that. As they get older they will sleep for longer stretches at night time. It does get better!
